I've seen all but the yet-to-be released last four episodes of season three and about 80% of season two and this is by far my favorite episode. I think the experience Nick has in the alternate plane of existance is the crux of his character. To me Nick's character shows that virtue is not to be gained and then forgotten, but that it is a never ending way of life. That it is something to be struggled for even if all is lost. This episode also showed Nigel Bennett's acting ability to be truly what it is: outstanding. He seems like an entirely different person as the other-worldly entity that Nick must face.

I found this episode rather riveting, although I do wonder what Nick was thinking when he chose to live as a vampire 700 years ago when he knew that by doing so he would damn himself for eternity, when he otherwise could have died in relative innocence as a mortal. Oh well, I guess there is just no accounting for taste. This episode does raise some interesting questions concerning Nick's vampiric powers and his behaviour in future episodes. All told, I found this theme quite absorbing.
