I think that Nick being beaten by LaCroix brought him back to the truth because he had to fight to say his life. For one thing, this proves he wants to live (which mortals do not, at least not forever). And he had to have had his vampiric powers or he would've been dead by that time after all that LaCroix had done to him.

Anyway I loved this show, although it was very confusing.

This was the first episode which totally blew my mind. I was already a regular watcher, but this one really hooked me. I guess I just like weird things, but I loved the Alice in Wonderland references. And, although I don't totally understand how Nick got into the alternate reality, I thought it was fascinating. Schanke was a hoot.
