I thought it was a little rushed and they really didn't take the time they needed to let what was happening sink in with all the characters. I thought they could have spent a little more time on the fact that Janette was gone and how that would affect both Nick and LaCroix. I also thought that they could have had more between Nick and Nat when it came to dealing with Cohen and Schanke's deaths. I mean, now it's just the two of them, and they needed to support each other. For crying out loud, Nat was having to piece together their bodies; you'd think that would have gotten to her more than what we saw.
I liked the story idea though, and I really like the new vampire and the new partner. I think the show will be much different this season. I'm looking forward to it. But I'm still going to miss Janette. Maybe fans can convince her to come back for a guest appearance.
This is a poem I wrote in response to the news of Skanke's death:
In Memorium
oh skanke!
you never played hanky-panky
not with nichola nor nichole
(though both are dolls)
Yet you are dead.
smashed bloody head
of a plane that crashed
your bones all mashed.
So is the capt
who often had you rapt
And jenette is gone
and won't return ere long
in place is a girl
who makes me hurl
though I haven't seen her
I know she is a cur
For she has sent you away
and hasn't rolled in the hay
with Nichola yet
(why else is she set?)
And LeCroix has Raven
oh how I feel craven
To know that you,
oh boo hoo!
Are dead.
I'd drink some mead
Only I'm underage
and locked in a cage
So skanke, just remember
that as your embers
blow in the wind
I know the Network hath sinned
And will release a skunke
for Skanke.

You must've missed the quick bits of business and dialogue that established that Vachon becomes responsible for Tracy because she's resistant to vampire hypnosis, and if other vampires than Javier and Nick find out about her, she's toast. Watch the scenes in the car and her apartment, and his brief dialogue with Nick: Vachon realizes after she helps him clean up from the crash that she resist his hypnotic control, but doesn't kill her; Nick warns him that Tracy is Vachon's responsibility to protect from the vampire community. Otherwise, I rather like the way Nick teases Tracy -- especially since as the Police Commissioner's daughter, she brings the "spotlight" onto him.
-- Anne Winters
I really enjoy the way Nick teases his partner since he knows that she is aware that vampires do exist! The way she tries to protect Nick from finding out about vampires and the way he tries to hide his own identity is, I think, a great direction for the writers to take.

I think that the introduction of Vachon is great. He has now become my favorite (and best looking!) character on the show. I feel that he should be in more episodes because his presence adds an interesting flare to the show.
