Fallen Idol

I was on vacation (1st thing I did was check out the TV schedule in a diff. time zone to find FK, fearing I had seen or missed the last episode in the can); and I saw this episode, watching is as if it were the last. What struck me most, if it were to be the last, was the closing scene with Nick and Nat in the boxing arena before a bout. They're discussing Joey and his uncle in their new lives. The boy and his uncle have gone through major transformations and growth.

Nat asks Nick if it's a good thing. (It's a fair question... and, for more than just the men in question!) Nick (very sweetly) takes Natalie's hand & says it is. I sensed a threshold achieved on the part of Nick & Nat.

This appeared to be a "nice finish" as if a) they knew it was the last episode ("ah, all is well with the world...we can stop telling the story now"); b) it's a promise or nice teaser for fans, in gearing up for the "Keep FK" fight (promise of further plot development with Nick and Nat? Nick finally committing, a milestone reached?) or c) just a different end from usual (perhaps from directorial input from Geraint Wyn Davies -- has he directed before)?

This was not the best episode, but it did develop the main characters more than most this season. The easy familiarity between Nick and Natalie and the warmth in their interactions gave a greater believability to their relationship.

It also showed the independence and sheer stubborness that Natalie (a doctor, for pity's sake!) has not shown since "A More Permanent Hell" when she decided she should become a vampire, and almost succeeded.
