SHEFFIELD, England (Reuter) --
A British toddler has been threatened with eviction after a security camera at the high-rise public housing projects where he lived filmed him with a dog.
The city council, which forbids tenants keeping pet animals, only backed down when the boy's family convinced council officials that the dog in question was a fluffy toy.
Thomas Mitchell's mother Kerry told reporters Friday that an official letter had arrived earlier this week from Sheffield Town Hall addressed to "Mr. T Mitchell."
"Thomas's dad is called Andrew, so it was obviously not for him. I couldn't believe what the letter said. It said we had been seen walking through the door of the flat with a dog."
"The only dog we have is Thomas's fluffy puppy ... He takes it everywhere with him and the council spy camera obviously saw him pulling it through the door," she added.
A council housing spokesman in Sheffield, northern England, later admitted, "In this case, an error has been made."
